Count complete, final figures
The final exclusion was SFF candidate Adrian Pickin. This put both Liberal Roger Jaensch and Labor’s Shane Bond over quota in that order. A tiny number of reduced transfer value votes remained with Pickin at the end of the count. The final Greens candidate was not excluded. Below is a pie chart of the final count with seven members elected.
Liberal Felix Ellis has been re-elected on preferences with the exclusion of Liberal Stephen Parry. Counting tomorrow will start by distributing Ellis’ surplus followed by the exclusion of Labor’s Amanda Diprose. But it will take further exclusions before anyone else is officially declared elected. Final figures for Thursday below.
Noon Thursday – Craig Garland is now only 22 short of a quota and is certain to be elected to the 3rd seat in Braddon, possibly on the next count excluding the second placed Green.

Nothing ground breaking in this update as the seven elected members are clear.
Update after Count 23 – end of Counting Tuesday
Eight Independents have been excluded today without any major changes to the result with 4 Liberal and 2 Labor MPs to be elected along with Independent Craig Garland.
After Count 2 (Rockliff elected, surplus distributed)
Around 6% of Rocklff’s surplus leaked out of the Liberal ticket. His surplus elected Gavin Pearce to the second Liberal seats and boosted the vote for Felix Ellis enough to insure he will win the third Liberal seat. The next count will distribute Pearce’s surplus, all of which under Hare-Clark rules will consist of (1) Rockliff (2) Pearce votes.
At Count 1 (Primary Vote Totals)
Premier Jeremy Rockliff will be declared elected as he holds more than 2.5 quotas in his own right. This should confirm that the Liberal Party will elect four members and clarify who the other successful Liberals will be, most likely former Federal MP Gavin Pearce and current Braddon MPs Felix Ellis and Roger Jaensch. The TEC will have undertaken a preliminary count out of Rockliff’s preferences. Once the final postal votes are included and the quota set, the distribution of his surplus should be completed quickly.
I am going to try and visualise the count over the next few days using a sequence of pie charts, a chart I rarely use but is useful to illustrate an unfolding Hare-Clark count.
On primary votes at Count 1 (figures to be finalised this morning) the totals by party expressed as quotas are Liberal 3.98 quotas, and cerain for four seats, Labor 1.90 and seemingly certain of two seats, Greens 0.59 amd likely to miss out and Independent Craig Garland on 0.82 quotas and certain of re-election. The Shooters Fishers and Farmers have 0.27 quotas, the Nationals 0.13 and various Independents 0.31.
The chart below simplifies the count for 38 candidates down to 9 slices for candidates with a significant first preference vote and chance of election. The remaining 5 slices accumulate totals by party for candidates with little chance of election, but whose preferences will have a role in determining who is elected. Each slice show the total votes expressed as quotas.
