By far the largest category of early votes at the Northern Territory election, indeed at all Australian elections, is pre-poll votes. These are votes cast in person at designated early voting centres during the campaign..
At the 2020 election, 72.3% of early votes in all categories were pre-poll votes. With three days of early voting to go, pre-poll voting is already at 75%, the figure higher largely because of the decline on postal voting. During Covid there was a surge in Postal voting, but the rate has declined at most elections held since.
The graph inside this post shows pre-poll voting as a percentage of enrolment in all electorates at the 2020 and 2024 elections. The table is sorted by 2024 percentages, shown by the thinner brown bar, with the final figure for 2020 in the surrounding yellow bar.
The 2020 data has not been adjusted for the redistribution which may explain the lower rate of pre-polling in Spillett, a seat that underwent major changes in the redistribution.
