Final Day Counting – Saturday 6 April

Detail on the final day of counting can be found in this post.

End of Counting Friday 5 April – After Count 57

Quote – 9,257 votes

The Party totals at this point are

  • Liberal 3.28 quotas, two quotas filled with 1.28 surplus quotas split over two remaining candidates
  • Labor 2.59 quotas, two quotas filled with a surplus 0.59 quotas with a third candidate
  • Greens 0.90 quotas with one candidate
  • Jacquie Lambie Network, 1.01 quotas split over two candidates
  • Shooters Fishers and Farmers, a residual 99 votes to complete the exclusion of the party.

In descending order the votes for the six remaining candidates still alive in the count at Count 57 are –

  • Tabatha Badger (Greens) – 8,368 votes – 0.90quotas
  • Mark Shelton (Liberal) – 7,231 votes – 0.78 quotas
  • Richard Goss (Labor) – 5,313 votes – 0.57 quotas
  • Andrew Jenner (Jacqui Lambie Network) – 4,809 votes – 0.52 quotas
  • Stephenie Cameron (Liberal) – 4,670 votes – 0.50 quotas
  • Troy Pfitzner (Jacqui Lambie Network) – 4,601 votes – 0.50 quotas

Tomorrow the following counts will be undertaken –

  • The residual 99 votes for the SFF will be distributed first but will not change the order of candidates.
  • Troy Pfitzner (JLN) will be distributed and put Andrew Jenner (JLN) close to a filled quota.
  • Stephenie Cameron (Liberal) will be excluded and put Mark Shelton (Liberal) over quota.
  • Shelton’s surplus will put Andrew Jenner (JLN) over quota if he hasn’t already reached a quota.
  • If she hasn’t already reached quota, Tabatha Badger should be declared elected without the ned to exclude Richard Goss.

End of Counting Thursday night – Count 42

Lyons has proved to be a straightforward count. The Liberal Party polled three quotas and will elect three members, re-electing Guy Barnett and Mark Shelton and electing Jane Howlett who transfers from the Legislative Council. Former Liberal MHA John Tucker has been defeated re-contesting as an independent.

The Labor Party started with 2.62 quotas, but 1.69 quotas in total were held by Rebecca White. There was a significant leakage of preferences out of the Labor ticket as her surplus was distributed, Labor dropping behind the Jacqui Lambie Network. Labor will elect only two members with Jen Butler set for re-election in the second Labor seat.

The remaining two seats will go to the crossbench with the election of the Greens’ Tabatha badger and the Jacqui Lambie Network’s Andrew Jenner. On a party ticket where Robson Rotation delivered roughly the same number of votes to all three candidates, Jenner has kept his nose in front to win election ahead of his two party colleagues.

Totals after Count 20 – end of Wednesday counting

There was a significant leakage out of the Labor ticket on the distribution of Rebecca White’s surplus. This leakage has ensured that the Jacqui Lambie Network will win the final seat ahead of a third Labor candidate. The distribution of White’s surplus clarified that Jen Butler would win the second Labor seat.

Within the Jacqui Lambie Network ticket, Andrew Jenner on 2,369 leads Troy Pfitzner on 2,273 with the preferences of third placed Lesley Pyecrof on 1,971 to determine whether Jenner or Pfitzner is elected.

Party Totals – between Counts 1 and 20, party total quotas have changed –

  • The Liberal total was risen from 3.01 quotas to 3.05.
  • The Labor total has slipped from 2.62 quotas to 2.53.
  • The Greens total has risen from 0.87 quotas to 0.89.
  • Jacqui Lambie Network rose from 0.66 to 0.71 quotas.
  • The total for all other candidates and parties slipped from 0.84 quotas to 0.81.

Labor Leader Rebecca White has polled 1.69 quotas and her surplus will be distributed at count 2, the distribution to take place on Wednesday morning. This surplus will determine who is the second elected Labor candidate, most likely Jen Butler. Any leakage of preferences out of the Labor ticket will make it harder for a third Labor candidate to defeat the Jacquie Lambie Network for the final seat.

The Liberals have three quotas and will re-elect Guy Barnett and Mark Shelton as well as welcome Jane Howlett’s transfer from the Legislative Council.

The Greens’ Tabatha Badger will win a seat for the Greens and the Jacqui Lambie Network have a strong chance of defeating Labor for the final seat. At this stage it is unclear which JLN candidate will be elected.
